Teaching Programs for Undergraduate Students of Department of Mathematics (2019)
1. Cultivation Requirement & Objective.
The Department of Mathematics concentrates on teaching both basic and professional theory of mathematics and is committed to cultivating the high-level mathematical talents with innovative and creative abilities. After four years of study, the students should have the preliminary ability to make research of the subjects on the frontiers of pure or applied mathematics.
More than 90% of undergraduate students are recommended or admitted to the key universities and institutes domestic and overseas after graduation and continue their graduate studies in the fields of Mathematics, Computing, Information Science, Economics, Finance and Management.
2. Requirement of Credits and Courses.

Students can choose the courses offered by every school of the Division of Sciences, including the School of Mathematics.
b. Liberal courses: 12 credits
Students should earn at least 2 credits in social sciences; at least 2 credits in philosophy and psychology; at least 2 credits in history; at least 4 credits in linguistics, literature, arts and aesthetics, among which course of College Chinese and one course in Arts and Education are obligatory; at least 2 credits in Mathematics and Natural Sciences or in Social Sustainable Development.
c. Courses offered by the university:3 credits
3. Requirements for the direct admission to the master’s courses:
a. Five of the following nine elective courses are required to be completed at the end of the third year: Basic Theory of Numbers, Groups and Representations, Basis of Algebraic Geometry, Topology, Differential Geometry, Differentiable Manifolds, Real Variable Function, Functional Analysis, Partial Differential Equations.
b. Five highest scores of the above courses and the scores of professional compulsory courses will be calculated in the direct admission selection. If the students haven’t completed at least five courses above, the scores of the missing courses will be calculated as 0.
c. The final ranking of the candidates officially recognized by the Department of Mathematics will be based on the average scores of the courses above-mentioned.
