Chao Yang is currently a Bo-Ya Professor in the School of Mathematical Sciences, Peking University. He received his BS in Mathematics from University of Science and Technology of China in 2002 and earned his PhD in Computer Science from Graduate University of Chinese Academy Sciences in 2007. After that, he was on the faculty of the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy Sciences for 11 years before joining the School of Mathematical Sciences, Peking University in 2018. Later, he was appointed as the Vice Director of the Center for Computational Science and Engineering in 2018, the Vice Director of the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data Analysis and Applications in 2021, and the Dean of the Institute for Computing and Digital Economy in 2022, respectively, all at the Peking University. His research interests include numerical analysis and modeling, large-scale scientific computing, and high-performance computing. He has published over 90 papers in peer-reviewed journals and premier conferences, and has won a series of awards including the 2016 ACM Gordon Bell Prize, the 2017 CCF-IEEE CS Young Computer Scientist Award, the 2017 CAS Outstanding Science and Technology Achievement Prize, and the 2020 Wang-Xuan Outstanding Young Scholar’s Award. He currently serves as an associate editor for SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, and an editorial group member for National Science Review. He is also the vice chair and the secretary-general of CSIAM SIAG/HPCMS (Chinese Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics - Activity Group on High Performance Computing and Mathematical Software).
