In this talk, I will discuss state-of-the-art algorithms to compute elliptic curve scalar multiplication over quadratic extension fields with large prime characteristic, exploiting the 4-dimensional GLV method and including strong countermeasures to protect implementations against timing attacks, cache attacks and other similar threats. In the end, I will summarize our speed-record results for the computation of protected and unprotected elliptic curve scalar multiplication. This talk samples work with Zhi Hu and Maozhi Xu (Peking University), and Francesco Sica (Nazarbayev University).
