Multiscale phenomena occur in a diverse range of science and engineering problems. These are fundamental problems of nature, whose solution/understanding is not only of interest to basic research, but also of importance to diverse applications in sciences and engineering.

It is now possible to derive instant predictions of some realistic model, to compare these with the experiment and to modify the model if possible. Mathematics develops notions as well as theoretical and numerical methods which make both a clean and efficient treatment of the model potentially possible. When the system involves multi-physics, the continuum calculations will have to be coupled with calculations based on kinetic theory and molecular dynamics, so that the overall behavior can be uncovered and simulated.

As the multiscale modeling of complex fluids are highly interdisciplinary, it requires close collaboration between researchers from different fields. The workshop is envisioned to serve as a platform for fruitful collaborations and changing ideas.
